A queen mattress is only 6 inches wider and 5 inches longer than a full. That small gap is exactly why the sheets are so easy to confuse.

What happens if you use the wrong size?
- Full fitted sheet on a queen bed: It won't stretch over all four corners, or it pops off overnight.
- Queen fitted sheet on a full bed: It goes on, but it's loose and baggy, and the bed looks sloppy. That's not the impression you want for guests.
4 Quick Ways to Tell Queen and Full Sheets Apart
1. Check the care tag
Some sheets have the size printed on the tag. The catch? Tags fade, get cut off, or are sewn into a seam you can't find when you're in a hurry.
2. Measure the fitted sheet
Lay the fitted sheet flat and measure the short side between two elastic corners. About 54 inches means full. About 60 inches means queen.
3. Compare side by side
If you have a sheet you know is a queen, fold both the same way and stack them. The queen will be noticeably bigger.
4. Look at the pillowcases
Many queen sets come with longer queen pillowcases (20" × 30"), while full sets usually include standard ones (20" × 26"). It's not foolproof, but it's a helpful clue.
All of these work, but they take time. When you're turning over a rental between guests or folding a mountain of laundry, you don't want to measure sheets.
